Friends of the Canaan Library

We are creating a Friends group. A Friends Group is a non-profit organization that supports the library by raising funds to support existing programming, create new programming opportunities, purchase furnishings, and help the library with any thing that is above and beyond the library's regular operating budget. The Friends are also advocates for the library, encouraging other community members to use all the resources the library has to offer.
The Friends of the Canton, MI public library have a nice definition on their website:

They're people like you, your family members, your neighbors and others
in the community who support the library's goals and services. They are active
advocates of the library and help raise community awareness and appreciation of
its many services and resources. Through their efforts, individually and as a
group, the Friends help bridge the gap between a good library and being
recognized as a great library.

Happy New Year Thomas Jefferson

As I was adding a few more titles to our Libarything list this morning, I read a neat post about Thomas Jefferson. A group of Librarything users have created an account for Thomas Jefferson so we can now see what books he had in his library. Did you know that Thomas sold his personal library of 6,487 volumes to the Library of Congress to replace the library that was destroyed during the Battle of 1812.
Mr. J also had his own tags, which you can now use to search his collection. Do you share any books with this signer of the Declaration of Independence?

Speaking of American duty . . . don't forget to vote in the NH Presidential Primary tomorrow. Canaan residents can vote at the Fire Station from 8:00am to 7:00pm.
